Project Lifecycle
- In May 2011, after two years of construction, the northern segment between Happy Valley Parkway and I-17 opened as a four-lane divided highway, providing two general-purpose travel lanes in each direction. This14-mile stretch is the first new freeway segment built as part of the 20-Year RTP approved by voters through Proposition 400 in 2004.
- Construction of the mid-segment, a six-mile stretch between Mountain View Boulevard and Peoria Avenue in the City of Surprise and unincorporated Maricopa County, is underway and began in August 2011. Construction will continue through fall 2013.
- Construction of the Surprise segment between U.S. 60 to Happy Valley Parkway and the southern segment between Thomas Road and Peoria Avenue will occur in several phases. The most recent schedule for project bidding and construction is as follows:
- Peoria Avenue to Glendale Avenue and interim traffic interchange for the Northern Parkway
- Scheduled to advertise for bid in January 2012
- Thomas Road to Camelback Road
- Scheduled to advertise for bid in December 2011
- Camelback Road to Glendale Avenue
- Scheduled to advertise for bid in July 2012
- Interim traffic interchange at U.S. 60 (Grand Avenue)
- Final design stage
- Construction programmed for Fiscal Year 2014
- U.S. 60 (Grand Avenue) to Happy Valley Parkway
- 30-percent design under way
- Construction programmed for phases III (2016-2020) and IV (2021-2025) of the RTP
- Construction of a freeway-to-freeway traffic interchange at the Loop 303 and I-10 in Goodyear is scheduled to begin in fall 2011 and will open in 2014.
- All four Loop 303 segments and the two traffic interchanges will be open in early 2014.
