Project Overview

As a part of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) constructed one new High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction on State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) between Shea and Loop 101 and Tatum Boulevards. In addition to the new HOV lanes on State Route 51, the project included the construction of HOV ramp connections from northbound SR 51 to eastbound Loop 101 and from westbound Loop 101 to southbound SR 51. A concrete median barrier separates the eight miles of new HOV lanes, and concrete pavement overlaid with rubberized asphalt was laid to reduce traffic noise.

There are no current projects on SR 51 (Piestewa Freeway).
